This lovingly reimagined Old World Caribbean home seems as if time stood agelessly still, yet most of the construction and amenities are quite new. The property’s only intact elements were the original hand built old stone wall, fireplace and foundation. The current owners, who purchased the land from the original family, have a passion for craftsmanship and restoration. Working in close partnership with authentic Saban artisan carpenters, the owners rebuilt the cottage from the ground up in Saba’s exquisite vernacular replete with red zinc roof, white wash shingle walls, green shutters and trim and stunning native stone details. The attention to detail and sensitive restoration reflect the owners’ love of Saba and its architectural integrity. The homestead’s original stone wall remains completely intact providing a romantic barrier between the home and the old foot path still used to access the cottage. Although set off the main road, you are just a short stroll to your car.

The views from the cottage’s front entry patio are breathtaking. Situated between the front door and the stone wall, the patio is a perfect perch to watch the ever- changing scene. The gentle hills undulate in front of you, framing the breathtaking sea view that stretches into the horizon. Sunrise and sunsets are dazzling palates of Caribbean color. Behind the house, a deep swath of land rises up the hill, a perfect setting to design and install a tropical garden oasis. Located in the hamlet of St Johns, the attitude of the area is peaceful, away from the hectic bustle of urban life. Local lore says that St John’s people were sincere people; perhaps that is why the mood here is so serene.

The cottage itself is filled with authentic Old World Caribbean charm, as if you’ve moved back in time yet accessible to modern conveniences. The home’s interior features white walls and high pitched ceilings trimmed with dark wood. The main space contains a large open plan living and dining room that open to the exterior via arched windows and doors trimmed in native stone inset with traditional wooden doors and iron work. The view flows into the room through the doors and windows. The large light filled kitchen is charming and airy with views over the sea. Behind the main living area is an extension providing a guest bedroom which could also function well as a home office. The master bedroom ensuite features a queen size antique four poster bed, with sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea and amazing sunrises. A bonus is a brand new 8000 gallon cistern, a must for comfortable Saban living.

Sea Turtle is the perfect spot to simply relax and unwind surrounded by endless beauty and solitude. Although the cottage has the feel of total remoteness, you are a short drive to amenities featured in the charming villages of The Bottom and Windwardside.
